We always look forward to
the many
activities in November! November 8th is Eastern's
Homecoming. Everyone enjoys the alumni reunions, the crowning of the
Homecoming King And Queen, the big basketball games, and the dance.
This year, we have have exciting events leading up to the big day,
including a chili cook-off, shopping cart joust, carnival, and an event
which is very important, the Homecoming Parade! Homecoming Week is
definitely a time to celebrate being a part of Eastern!
November is officially designated as AIDS Awareness Month and American
Indian Heritage Month. Our displays in the Library Media Center feature
some of our books, magazines, and videos on these topics. Twenty-seven
percent of
Eastern's
student population claim American Indian Heritage, and the Media Center
has materials which focus on the accomplishments and cultures of
American Indians. And without the help of some the early American
Indians the first Thanksgiving would not have been possible. American
Indians taught the pilgrims to plant food that allowed the pilgrims to
survive and be able to share the first Thanksgiving with the American
Indians.
November is also a good time, if possible, to slow down just a
bit and count our
blessings. Holidays are approaching , of course, and during this time
we should really appreciate all we have. The Library Media Center has
many materials which might help us enjoy the season. Books and other
materials with holiday ideas, recipes, stress relief, and study skills
(exams are almost here!) are all available.
The offices and Library Media Center will be closed for the week of
Thanksgiving (Nov.24-28). We will reopen on
Sunday, Nov. 30, from 5:00-9:00p.m.
Enjoy
this time, be
thankful, and don't forget to come by the library
Media Center and make use of our materials!
