Eastern Mountaineers headed to NJCAA National Tournament after Region II Championship

WILBURTON, OK (March 12, 2012) – Eastern Oklahoma State College is headed to the NJCAA National Tournament after defeating Northern Oklahoma College-Enid 91-86 on Sunday to become the Region II Champions.

Sophomore Tharone Chilton was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and sophomore Marcus Tarrance was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Eastern earned a No. 1 seed and a bye in the first round of the Region II Tournament. In the second round on Friday, the Mountaineers defeated Western Oklahoma State College 70-65. Eastern then defeated Murray State College 62-50 in the semi-finals on Saturday night.

The 8th ranked Mountaineers are now 30-3 overall. They will play in the first round of the national tournament at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20 at the Hutchinson Sports Arena in Hutchison, Kan. Eastern’s last visit to the men’s national basketball tournament was in 1961.
