Eastern opens basketball season with convincing Homecoming wins over Rhema Bible College
WILBURTON, OK (Nov. 5, 2012) – Eastern Oklahoma State College opened the basketball season with two convincing wins over Rhema Bible College during Homecoming festivities on Nov. 3.
The Lady Mountaineers built a 60-26 lead over the Lady Eagles in the first half and finished with an 87-50 victory. The Lady Mountaineers had two freshmen with double-doubles. Jordan Franks of Norman led the Lady Mountaineers with 21 points and 17 rebounds, while Octavia Allen of Brenham, Tex. added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Olivia Brown of Pearland, Tex. finished with 14 points and 5 assists; sophomore Taylor Jones of Austin, Tex. and Jasmine Perkins of Little Rock, Ark. both added 12 points. Sophomore Rodneisha Milum of Houston, Tex. grabbed seven rebounds in her first game back since being sidelined last year with an ACL injury.
The Mountaineers also started strong with a 126-99 win in a high-scoring season opener against the Eagles. Sophomore Rod Lewis of Memphis, Tenn. Led the Mountaineers with 26 points. Lewis is one of five returning sophomores from last year’s 32-5 team that finished fourth in the NJCAA National Tournament. Freshmen Devaughn Purcell of Orlando, Fla. and Alfonzie Wilson of Memphis, Tenn. both added 17 points in the victory.
Next up, Eastern faces the Dallas Diesel on Nov. 10. The Lady Mountaineers play at 5 p.m. and the Mountaineers follow at 7 p.m.
