EOSC Theatre to present Neil Simon’s “Rumors” May 2-4
WILBURTON, OK (April 24, 2014) – The Eastern Oklahoma State College Theatre Department’s final performance of the academic year will be Neil Simon’s popular comedy “Rumors.” The play will be presented May 2 and 3 at 7 p.m. and May 4 at 2 p.m. in Mitchell Auditorium in Wilburton.
Simon’s play opened on Broadway in 1988 and ran for more than 500 performances. “Rumors” is the story of four couples who arrive at the New York City townhouse of a deputy mayor and his wife for an anniversary party only to discover that there are no servants, the hostess is missing, and the deputy mayor is slightly injured after shooting himself in the ear. Hilarity ensues when the upper-class guests decide they need to conceal the evening's events from the local police and media to protect their reputations.
“This is a fast-paced, high-energy comedy with a lot of physical humor,” said Marshall Carby, EOSC theatre director and instructor. “This story illustrates how easily a little white lie can quickly snowball into chaos.”
The cast of “Rumors” include Hannah Truitt of Wilburton as Chris Goman; Zach Olinger of Checotah as Ken Gorman; Jesseca Shipman of Kiowa as Claire Ganz; Monty Montgomery of Wilburton as Lenny Ganz; Marshall Carby of Wilburton as Ernie Cusack; Sarah Klocke of Wilburton as Cookie Cusack; Alex Vann of McAlester as Glenn Cooper; Brekke Gammon of Violonia, Ark. as Cassie Cooper; Clay Humphreys of Kiowa as Officer Welch; and Emily Orr of Canadian as Officer Pudney.
Sophomore Zach Olinger, who has participated in several of Eastern’s theatre productions, will graduate in May with a degree in theatre. He has received an out-of-state tuition waiver to attend the University of New Orleans next fall as a film and theatre major.
Admission is $5 for adults and free for Eastern students with an EOSC ID.
