Meat Processing and Food Safety Continued..

Eastern has won several awards for some of the products that our students have entered into competitions. The meats programs at Eastern works closely with the surrounding community and most of the animals that the students are taught with come from the area. Many of the job opportunities for our students come from either local grocery stores working as meat cutters, Tyson foods working in a variety of positions, U.S.D.A. Meat inspection or Oklahoma State Meat Inspection.

Most of our classes are small and allows for our students to get as much attention as they need and with the small classes it brings the feel of a family environment. Most of the students in our program receive scholarships through the Meat Processing/Food Safety Program this helps the students pay for college, which is a major expense.

Meat Processing and Food Safety

Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton Oklahoma is proud to be the only school in Oklahoma and the surrounding states to offer an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Meat Processing/Food Safety.

Our program is a two-year, five semester learning experience that is a mostly hands-on, much like on-the-job training; it allows students to learn all of the aspects of the meats industry. From the live animal evaluation to the making of sausages to learning the concepts and certification of HACCP our program offers a highly diversified education. We strive to educate our students in every facet of the meats industry. We work in cooperation with the Oklahoma/Texas Meat Processors Association as well as the American Meat Science Association.
