Last of the Red Hot Lovers
Theatre Eastern is announcing a “red-hot” Valentine Dinner
Theatre on February 15, 16 and 17, 2007 at the Eastern Ballroom in Wilburton.
The theatre department will be performing Neil Simon’s romantic
comedy “Last of the Red Hot Lovers” as a fundraiser. The
dinner will begin at 6 p.m. each evening with the performance at 7
p.m. Ticket prices are $18 each or $36 per couple and are being sold
by reservation only. Visa and MasterCard will be accepted as well as
checks. No tickets will be available at the door.
“The ticket price pays for the costs of the meal, those who
prepare the meal and for the production,” Theatre Eastern director,
Debra Collins Bailey said. “We tried to keep the price as low
as possible, but we are using this as a fundraiser and we’ll
be asking the audience to make an additional donation to the theatre
department. The money raised will be used to give our theatre students
the opportunity to see university and professional productions they
otherwise couldn’t attend.”
Bailey warns that seating will be limited and groups wishing to attend
together should make their reservations as soon as possible to ensure
adjacent seating.
“Not only will those attending be able to enjoy a delicious
meal, but they can see a full-length romantic comedy afterward – a
perfect Valentine’s combination.”
The menu for the evening will be apple salad mixed greens with peppercorn
ranch dressing, lemon pepper grilled chicken breast, twice baked potato,
sautéed vegetables, black forest cake and a hot roll. Tea,
coffee and water will be available.
“Lovers” tells the story of Barney Cashman (Shantry Hilliard,
sophomore, Stilwell) and the three other women in his life: Elaine
Navazzio (Jolene Hill, freshman, Wilburton), Bobbi Michelle (Nikki
Little, freshman, Clayton) and Jeanette Fisher (Shayla Burton Chamlee,
freshman, Wilburton). Stage manager for the production is Matt Tucker
(freshman, Quinton).
Barney decides life is passing him by and he wants to experience something
different and new, so he decides to have an affair – just one
afternoon of romance and then he will go back to his nice, boring life.
The first woman, Elaine, is a tough New Yorker who doesn’t have
an ounce of romance in her so it doesn’t work the way Barney
wants. The second, Bobbi, is a night club singer who’s looking
for her big break. Problem is – she’s certifiable. Needless
to say, that one doesn’t work out either. The third woman, Jeanette,
a friend of the family, is totally and completely depressed. Again,
problems arise and Barney’s back at square one.
“A couple of church groups have asked me how I would rate this
show,” Bailey said. “I would say a soft PG. There
is minor language and it deals with extramarital affairs, so there
are some small adult situations. But compared to what we see on PG
films and television today, the play is much, much, much tamer.”
The box office is open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday. Call
(918) 465-1758 to reserve your seat(s) today.
