Types of Honors Courses at Eastern

  1. Honors sections of regular courses:
These courses are selected from the general education curriculum. In general, they cover the same material as non-honors sections. Additional reading or writing assignments, presentations or group projects may be required. Tests may be essay rather than multiple-choice. The primary difference is that expectations are higher.
  2. Enriched options within regular courses:
Honors students are enrolled in the same section as non-honors students. Honors students complete extra assignments/projects. These courses may be either general education or courses from the major area of study.
  3. Special Honors courses:
At Eastern, honors students enroll each fall in SOC 1221 (2221 for sophomores), a seminar class that examines social issues. In addition, they are required to complete SOC 2313, a leadership class. Enrollment in these classes is limited to honors students.
