Transition Criteria -
Advanced Standing for LPN's - |
| CHALLENGE
PROCESS |
Any LPN currently licensed in the state of Oklahoma
is eligible to apply to the Eastern Oklahoma State College Associate
Degree Nursing Program for the opportunity to challenge the first
year nursing courses. Qualified LPN's will be accepted into the
challenge process and will be allowed to challenge Nursing 1118,
and Nursing 1218. When these challenges are completed successfully,
the LPN will have credit for these courses applied to their transcript
and will be eligible to enter the second year of the nursing program.
Admission to the second year will be on a space available basis.
In order to receive the Associate in Applied Science in Nursing
degree, the qualified LPN must successfully complete all of the
second year nursing courses at Eastern, (NURS 2118, NURS 2218,
NURS 1303, and NURS 2212), plus a minimum of 34 general education
credit hours. For advanced placement credit to be included on
an Eastern transcript, a student must complete a minimum of 12
hours at Eastern and be in good academic standing.

| PROCEDURE
FOR OBTAINING ADVANCED STANDING AS AN LPN |
- Follow application guidelines to Eastern and to the A.D.N.
Program
- Must be currently licensed as an LPN
- In order to challenge NURS 1118, all of the first semester
general education requirements must either be completed or the
LPN must currently be enrolled and passing (with a "C"
or better in sciences with an overall GPA of at least 2.00)
in all those courses (Anatomy, Orientation, Freshmen Composition
I, Developmental Psychology). The challenge
exam for NURS 1118 and NURS 1218 will be Assessment Technologies
Institute-Fundamentals, Maternal Child, and Nursing Care of
Children
- Documentation of 800 work hours in clinical practice in an
acute care setting, long-term care facility or home health agency
is needed.
- A 90% passage rate on a dosage calculation examination is
required before completion of the Transition course. Students
have three attempts to achieve a passing score

| DIRECT
ARTICULATION FOR LPN'S |
The Eastern Associate Degree Nursing Faculty have chosen to participate
in the Oklahoma L.P.N./A.D.N. Articulation Plan. LPN's must apply
and be accepted to Eastern Oklahoma State College, then they can
apply for direct articulation to nursing, based on the plan. All
required general education courses for each of the first year
semesters must be completed with a 2.00 GPA and "C"
or higher in all science courses before credit will be granted
for the required Nursing course work for that semester. To graduate,
all LPN's must complete the second year of A.D.N. course work
at Eastern plus at least one other credit hour to meet the requirements
that the last twelve hours of credit be taken at Eastern. For
any advance placement credit to be included on an Eastern transcript,
a student must complete a minimum of twelve hours at Eastern and
be in good academic standing.
The Oklahoma L.P.N./A.D.N. Articulation Plan as approved by the
Oklahoma Board of Regents gives LPN's the opportunity to receive
college credit for practical nursing education without challenge
examinations. Credit may be granted according to the following
criteria:
- Must be currently licensed as an LPN in the state of Oklahoma
- Must have graduated within the past five years
- Must have graduated from an Oklahoma Practicing Nursing School
with National League for Nursing Accreditation
- Students will receive credit for the first and second semester
nursing courses
- The number of credit hours will be determined by the granting
educational institution
- Documentation of 800 work hours in clinical practice in an
acute care setting, long-term care facility or home health agency
is needed
- A 90% passage rate on a dosage calculation examination is
required before completion of the Transition course. Student
will have three attempts to achieve this score.
