Community-Based Job Training Grant
Southeastern Oklahoma Project
Funded by the Department of Labor
The CBJT SON Project was awarded to Eastern Oklahoma State College Nursing
Department in January 2007. The $1.7 million Project was initiated to
address the critical nursing shortage in Southeast Oklahoma.
Outcomes:
The SON Project will:
- Greatly expand outreach and recruitment to 5,000 K-12 and LPN Transition
students, especially those who are traditionally underserved, in order
to increase the numbers of students enrolling in the EOSC Nursing Program.
- Provide salaries for Remediation/Clinical Instructors to meet the
demands of increased enrollment.
- Modernize instruction by updating technology to meet current best
practices, e.g. SimMan, Noelle, etc.
- Provide remediation to improve student retention and completion rates,
particularly among economically and educationally disadvantaged students.
- Develop an organized Career Ladder to serve southeastern Oklahoma
that encourages Kiamichi Technology LPN students to transition into
the RN program at EOSC and increase the number of EOSC RN graduates
that continue on into East Central University’s (ECU) Advanced
Track BSN Program.
- Provide technologically advanced training equipment to be used in
the EOSC Skills Labs.
Each Partner of the CBJT SON project has committed to the project
and is dedicated to its success.
