Mass Communication Degree
The A.A. in Mass Communication is designed to outline the freshman and sophomore years of study for students planning to major in Mass Communication or related fields at a four-year college or university. Mass Communication major is designed to provide students with a theoretical and practical understanding of Mass Communication. Emphasis is placed on the practical aspects of news–gathering, writing, editing, and design. All students are afforded the opportunity to gain hands–on experience through work with the award–winning Eastern Statesman newspaper and/or the Mountaineer Yearbook.
There are many career opportunities available in the mass communication industry. Graduates may work as writers, reporters, editors, photojournalists, public relations/communication/marketing specialists in businesses and organizations such as newspapers, magazines, television and radio stations, publishing companies, advertising agencies, public relations and marketing firms and more.
Get involved and join the Photography Club, a student organization for those interested in photography. The Photography Club has recently traveled around the region and internationally for photo opportunities.
The Mountaineer Minute is a weekly video segment featuring news, events and student activities at Eastern Oklahoma State College. The Mountaineer Minute is produced by students in Eastern's Mass Communication program.
