Eastern vs Seminole Game Recap

Eastern concluded
their regular season series with Seminole by winning the second game of
the doubleheader. Seminole won the first three meetings by the scores
of 1-0, 6-5 and 5-4. Eastern won the last game 2-1. Seminole is currently
ranked 19th in the NJCAA poll and is in first place in the region.
Seminole scored in the top of the sixth to take
the lead 1-0. Melissa Simms led off the bottom of the sixth with a sharp
ground ball to right field that got by the rightfielder and Simms advanced
to third. Rebecca Buirrea was asked to hit a deep fly ball to the outfield
to score the run but answered with a two run homerun to centerfield. Hillary
Davis (13-7) picked up the win only allowing five hits and three base
runners stranded.
Eastern collected five hits of their own and left
six runners on base. Seminole committed two errors, the one in rightfield
proving costly. Brittany Day went two for two with a pair of singles and
getting hit by a pitch. Buirrea, Simms and Ashley Graham had the other
three hits for Eastern.
In the first game of the day Seminole got out
to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Eastern came back to score
three runs in the bottom of the fourth and another in the bottom of the
fifth to take a 4-2 lead. Seminole tallied three runs in the top of the
seventh and the Lady Mountaineers failed to mount a comeback and fell
5-4. Karla Pittman (24-10) took the loss, surendering 10 hits while striking
out five. Eastern got 9 hits, with Graham and Simms notching two apiece.
Day, Leslie Boyd, Rachael Christian, Somer Dykes and Buirrea each got
one.
Eastern's record now stands at 39-19-1 and 12-14
in the Region. Remaining games include Northern on Thursday of this week
and Texarkana next Tuesday, both doubleheaders are at home at 2:00 p.m.
