MOUNTAINEER BASEBALLHEAD COACH, Aric Thomas 14th Ranked Mountaineers Pull Away From Fort SmithBy a score of 9-2, the Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball team defeated the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. With the victory, the Mountaineers improved their overall record to 22-11 and their Bi-State Conference record to 5-3. In six innings of work, Derek Edwards picked up his third win of the year. He allowed just one earned run and five hits while striking out four. Carey Crain came on to throw the final three innings and picked up his first save of the year. Crain didn’t allow a hit or run in his three innings of work. Justin Mitchell sparked the offense early with a leadoff home run in the first inning. Along with his first home run of the season, Mitchell added an rbi single in the second inning. The Mountaineers pulled away in the seventh inning. Entering the bottom of the seventh with a 5-2 lead, Tyler Fulps drove in two runs with a single and Steven Fields also added an rbi single to put the Mountaineers up 8-2. Fulps then scored on a wild pitch for the final margin of victory. Josh Rorex had three hits on the day and Mitchell, Fulps, and Tim Sogan each had two. The Mountaineers will finish their four game regular season series with Fort Smith on Saturday. Eastern will travel to Fort Smith for a double header starting at 3:00 pm. The teams have split the first two games.
