Eastern Sweeps Doubleheader with Seminole

GarciaThe Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball team swept Seminole State College Saturday by scores of 5-3 and 6-1.  With the sweep, the Mountaineers improved to 25-13 on the season and 7-5 in Bi-State Conference play.

In game one, Seminole jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning.  Ryan Davis answered in the bottom of the frame with his first home run of the year.  An RBI single by Justin Mitchell in the fifth inning tied the score 2-2.  Seminole added one in the top of the sixth, but the Mountaineers answered again and took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of that frame.  The second run came when Kyle Price stole third base and the catcher’s throw was errant enabling Price to score.  The Mountaineers added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth.  Steven Fields two out RBI single completed the scoring.  Hiarali Garcia picked up his fifth win of the season with a strong seven inning performance. Garcia allowed just five hits and three earned runs while striking out five.  Joe Noyes came on to pick up his sixth save of the year.  Noyes tossed scoreless eighth and ninth innings to earn the save.

In game two, Seminole jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning scoring on a Mountaineer miscue.  The Mountaineers answered with three runs in the bottom of the first.  A leadoff double from Justin Mitchell, singles from Chance Gerloff and Ryan Davis and a sacrifice fly by Carey Crain capped the scoring.  Blake King made sure Seminole would not score again.  King tossed a complete game one hitter.  It was King’s third one hitter (Connors and Rose State) of the season.  The Mountaineers added single runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings for the final margin of 6-1.

Eastern will take the field again on Tuesday April 18th.  They will travel to Carl Albert State College for a 2:00 pm start.  Then on Saturday April 22nd, the Mountaineers will host Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College.  The Bi-State Conference double header will begin at 1:00 pm.
