Mountaineers Open Up Conference Play With A Sweep

picBy scores of 7-1 and 5-2, the Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball team continued its winning streak with a double header sweep of Northeastern A & M.  The double header, played in Miami, OK, was moved from Saturday to Friday due to the anticipated inclement weather.  With the two wins, the Mountaineers (16-8 / 2-0) have now won eight in a row and 13 of their last 16.

In game one, Hiarali Garcia (3-1) set the tone for the Mountaineers on the mound.  Garcia tossed his second straight nine inning complete game.  He allowed just six hits and one earned run while striking out five.  Leading the offense were Sophomores Chance Gerloff and Tyler Fulps.  Gerloff went 2-5 and drove in two runs.  Fulps went 2-3 with a walk, hit by pitch, two stolen bases and scored two runs.

The Mountaineers rallied in the final two innings to win game two.  Blake King (5-0) earned the victory on the mound.  He threw six innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs while striking out eight.  Joe Noyes came on to earn his fourth save of the year by throwing a scoreless seventh inning.  After giving up two runs in the first, the Mountaineers trailed 2-0 until the sixth inning.  Chance Gerloff scored on a two out error to cut the lead in half.  In the seventh inning, Eastern rallied for four runs with two outs.  Kyle Price, who reached on a fielders choice scored on a bases loaded walk to Carey Crain.  Tim Sogan then connected on a base clearing triple that put the Mountaineers up 5-2.
