Mountaineers Sweep 8th Ranked Cowley County

The Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball team beat 8th ranked Cowley County Community College by scores of 10-4 and 13-11.  With the two victories, the Mountaineers improved to 10-2 on the season and extended their winning streak to 8 games.

In game one, Chance Deason (3-0) picked up his third win of the season.  Deason threw five innings allowed just four hits and struck out five.  Ashton Mowdy pitched the final two frames and struck out four.  Offensively, Justin Mitchell led the way.  Mitchell was 4-4 with a double, two runs scored, three RBI’s and a stolen base.  Dearth Parker went 2-5 and drove in three runs.  Carey Crain went 2-3 and hit his first home run of the year.  Steve Irvine also went 2-3.

In the second game, the Mountaineers played catch up again.  They rallied from deficits of 7-1, 8-2 and 11-7.  Carey Crain led Eastern on the mound and with his bat.  Crain (2-0) picked up his second win in the team’s last three games.  He tossed four innings of relief for the victory.  Offensively, Crain went 3-5 with a double, two runs scored, four RBI’s and his second home run of the day.  Gunner Glad enjoyed his homecoming at Tulsa Union High School’s baseball field and showed it with his 3-5, four runs scored, two RBI’s, a stolen base and two home runs.  Justin Mitchell continued his hot day at the plate and went 2-5 with his first home run of the year.  Josh Rorex also went 2-5 and hit his first home run of the year.  Russell Boothe added three hits.

The Mountaineers will take the field again Wednesday, February 28th.  They will play at home against Texarkana College in a double header starting at 12:00 pm.  Texarkana enters the game ranked 14th in the Perfect Game Poll and 23rd in the NJCAA poll.

SCHEDULE CHANGE:  This weekend (March 2nd-4th), the Mountaineers will travel to the Bossier Parish Community College Spring Tournament.  The Mountaineers first game, on Friday, has been changed to 2:00 pm.  Eastern will lock up with Texarkana.  Saturday, the Mountaineers will play Bossier Parrish at 1:00 pm.  And on Sunday, Eastern will play 28th ranked Navarro at 11:00 am.
