Mountaineers Rally Falls Short

Pitching Against TexarkanaThe Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball team lost both games of a double header on Wednesday against Texarkana College.  By scores of 3-6 and 9-10 the Mountaineers overall season record falls to 10-4.

In game one, the Mountaineers out hit Texarkana 11 to 7, but couldn’t put enough of the hits together to overcome a 6-3 margin.  Gunner Glad (1-1) received his first loss of the year in six innings of work.  He allowed five runs on six hits and struck out five.  Offensively, Glad continued his torrid streak at the plate.  He went 4-4 and connected on his team leading fifth home run of the season.  Justin Mitchell and Ryan Davis both went 2-3 and Russell Boothe connected on his first home run of the season.

The Mountaineers battled to their final out in game two.  After falling behind 8-2 in the first three innings, Eastern rallied for two in the fourth inning and four in the sixth inning to tie the game.  Texarkana picked up two runs in the top of the seventh and the Mountaineers could only come up with one run in the bottom of the final frame.  After two singles by Bryce Killingsworth and Logan Schamburg in the final frame, leadoff hitter Justin Mitchell stepped to the plate with two outs.  Mitchell hit an infield single, and the Texarkana shortstop threw the ball away.  Killingsworth scored and pinch runner Bo O’Dell was thrown out, on a close play at the plate to end the game.  Carter Browning (0-1) pitched three innings of great relief, but was tagged with his first loss of the year on an unearned run.  Offensively, the Mountaineers out hit Texarkana 14-10.  Mitchell, Glad, Davis, Carey Crain, Schamburg and Steve Irvine each had two hits.

The Mountaineers will take the field again against Texarkana College Friday March 2nd.  They will travel to the Bossier Parish Community College Spring Tournament.  First pitch is set for 2:00 pm.
