Eastern Goes 2-1 in Bossier Parish Tournament

Eastern PitcherThe Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball team traveled to Shreveport, LA for the Bossier Parish Tournament.  With two wins and one loss the Mountaineers improved their overall record to 12-5.  They defeated Texarkana College 6-5 in 10 innings on Friday afternoon.  Saturday evening the Mountaineers lost to Bossier Parish Community College by a score of 11-4.  And on Sunday afternoon Eastern defeated East Central Community College, out of Mississippi, by a score of 2-0.

In Friday’s game, Eastern stopped 14th ranked Texarkana Colleges 15 game winning streak.  The Mountaineers found themselves trailing 3-1 heading into the bottom of the 8th inning.  Ryan Davis led off the inning with a hit by pitch and then Russell Boothe followed with a single.  After a failed sacrifice bunt attempt, Josh Rorex hit a run scoring double.  Chad Price then added a perfectly executed squeeze bunt that went for a hit and RBI.  Logan Schamburg then added a sacrifice fly.  Justin Mitchell added a single and then Dearth Parker finished the scoring with a RBI single.  Texarkana rallied to tie the game 5-5 in the 9th inning, but the Mountaineers rallied to win the game in the 10th inning.  Parker came up with the game winning RBI single.  Offensively Mitchell and Price had three hits a piece.  Parker and Rorex also had two hits a piece.  The Mountaineers also had a season high 10 stolen bases in the game.  Levi Rhoades picked up the win in two innings of relief.  He allowed just one hit while striking out three.

In Saturday’s game the Mountaineers came out flat and were defeated 11-4 by the host team Bossier Parish.  Eastern had a season low five hits in the game.  Steve Irvine went 2-4 and Gunner Glad extended his hitting streak to 16 games.

Despite only having two hits as a team, Eastern was able to win a pitching duel in Sunday’s finale.  In the 2nd inning, Carey Crain led off with a single and then Logan Schamburg walked.  After a double steal, Russell Boothe connected on a two RBI double.  That was the only scoring for the game as the Mountaineers won 2-0.  Ashton Mowdy picked up his first win in his first start of the season.  Mowdy pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings.  Crain doubled as a pitcher and tossed 2 2/3 scoreless to pick up his first save of the season.  Offensively, Gunner Glad’s season high 16 game hitting streak was snapped.

Eastern will take the field again on Tuesday, March 6th against Independence Community College.  They will play a single nine inning game with first pitch at 2:00 pm.
