Eastern Split in Northeast Texas Tournament

Pitching against Northeast TexasThe Eastern Oklahoma State College Baseball team (16-6), split two games Sunday in the Northeast Texas Community College Tournament.  The Mountaineers beat Lon Morris College by a score of 7-5 and they dropped a 5-4 decision against the host team.

Against Lon Morris, Eastern rallied in the 6th inning to take control.  With a 3-3 tie heading into the bottom of the 6th, the Mountaineers plated four runs.  The big blows came from Dearth Parker and Gunner Glad.  Parker drove in two runs with a bases loaded single, and Glad followed suit with a double that scored two.  Justin Mitchell, Parker and Glad each had two hits in the game.  Mitchell also scored three runs and Glad had 3 RBI’s in the game.  On the mound, Derek Edwards tossed three innings of relief to pick up the win.  He allowed just one earned run.  Levi Rhoades picked up his 6th save of the year.

In the nightcap against Northeast Texas Community College, the Mountaineers lost a tough decision in the bottom of the 9th inning.  Eastern struck for two runs in the 1st and 2nd innings, but despite 11 hits couldn’t score the rest of the game.  Northeast Texas came up with an infield single in the bottom of the 9th to win the game.  Offensively, Justin Mitchell continued his torrid start to the season.  Mitchell had three hits in the game and on the day went 5-8 at the plate.  Dearth Parker chipped in two hits as did Carey Crain.  On the mound, Gunner Glad turned in a good performance, but was the hard luck loser.
