MOUNTAINEER BASEBALL Story by Aric Thomas Eastern Drops a Pair
In game one, the Mountaineers rallied from a 5-0 deficit. By scoring a pair of runs in each of the 4th, 5th and 6th innings, Eastern took the lead 6-5. Rose answered back with a single run in the 6th and 7th innings to win 7-6. In the 4th inning, Kyle Price and Chad Price had run scoring infield singles. In the 5th inning, Ryan Davis hit a two run home run and in the 6th inning, Gunner Glad drove in two with a single. With a tie game in the bottom of the 7th inning, Josh Moore led off with a double for Rose. An intentional walk, another walk and then a hit batsman plated the winning run for Rose. Offensively, Glad led the way for Eastern by going 3-4 and driving in two runs. Dearth Parker, Kyle Price and Chad Price had two hits a piece and Davis drove in two runs. In game two, Eastern could never get going offensively. Despite 11 hits, the Mountaineers could only score three runs. Rose scored three runs in the 2nd inning, two in the 4th, three in 5th, one in the 7th and 2 more in the 8th. Ben Hayes (1-1) took his first loss of the year. Offensively, Steve Irvine, Ryan Davis and Josh Rorex each had two hits and every Mountaineer starter but one had at least one hit.
