Deason Pitches Eastern Past
Connors
The Eastern Oklahoma State College
(26-17 / 5-8) baseball team defeated Connors State College by
a score of 3-1 on Wednesday night. Chance
Deason (6-1) picked up the win and came up just two outs short
of a complete game shutout. Deason went 8.1 innings and allowed
just one unearned run and eight hits, while striking out 10. In
the 9th inning, Deason allowed a leadoff single, struck the next
batter out and then gave up another single. He gave way to
Levi Rhoades. Rhoades got the first batter to hit a fly ball,
but a miscommunication in the outfield plated Connors only run. After
a walk, Derek Kiker came on for the Mountaineers. Kiker struck
out the first batter he faced and then finished the game with a
fly out to left. He picked up his first save of the season.
Offensively, the Mountaineers scored
all their runs via the home run. In the 2nd inning, Josh Rorex drew a two out walk. Chad
Price followed with his fourth home run of the season. In
the 7th inning, Dearth Parker hit his first home run of the season
with two outs. The Mountaineers pounded out 11 hits. Steve
Irvine, Chad Price and Parker each went 2-4. Kyle Price went
4-4 with three doubles and a walk.
The Mountaineers will travel to Connors
again for a single game on Saturday at 1:00 pm. They will
complete the four game series on Sunday at home with a double
header starting at 1:00 pm.
