Eastern Throttles Fort Smith in Series
Opener
The Eastern Oklahoma State College
(28-19 / 7-10) defeated the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith
by a score of 9-1. The
Mountaineers scored two runs in the 1st inning and never looked
back. They also added three runs in the 6th and four runs
in the 8th inning. Chance Deason set the tone for Eastern. Deason
pitched his second complete game of the season and allowed just
five hits and one run while striking out 10 and inducing three
double plays. Deason was so dominant, only one Fort Smith
player reached 3rd base in the game. With the win, Deason
improved to 7-1 on the year.
Offensively, Carey Crain led the
17-hit Mountaineer attack by going 2-4 with two home runs and
four RBI’s. Gunner
Glad went 4-5 with two doubles, two runs scored, one RBI and a
stolen base. Steve Irvine 3-5, Kyle Price (2-4) and Chad
Price (2-4) each had multiple hit games. Every Mountaineer
starter had at least one hit.
Game two of the four game series will be at Fort Smith on Thursday
(April 26th) at 5:00 pm.
