MOUNTAINEER BASEBALL Story by Aric Thomas Eastern Victorious on Sophomore Day The Eastern Oklahoma State College (30-22 / 8-12) wrapped up the regular season with a 9-7 win versus Carl Albert State College. The Mountaineers scored three runs in the 2nd inning to take a 4-2 led and never looked back. Bryce Killingsworth and Dearth Parker had RBI singles after Carl Albert committed two errors. Killingsworth scored the third run of the inning on another error. Offensively, the Mountaineers pounded out 11 hits with Dearth Parker the only player with two hits. Parker, Casey Gibson and Russell Boothe each belted home runs in the game. Six Eastern pitchers threw on Saturday. Gunner Glad (6-4) picked up the win in relief and Derek Kiker recorded his third save of the season. All ten Mountaineer sophomores will have an opportunity to play baseball next year. This sophomore class was very special to the program and all ten players will represent Eastern in a great way. This class was Head Coach Aric Thomas’ first recruiting class at Eastern and he hates to see any of them leave, but he knows they will move on and have great success on and off the field. Justin Mitchell (CF) and Kyle Price (2B/SS) will play at Oral Roberts University next year. Ryan Davis (1B/3B) and Chad Price (C) will play at the University of Texas at Arlington next year. Kevin Whyte (LHP) will attend and play at Canisius College. Craig Price may have the possibility of being on staff at the University of Arkansas next year. Austin Baker (RHP), Carey Crain (LHP/OF), Derek Edwards (RHP), and Josh Rorex (OF) are still undecided on where they will attend school and play next year. The Mountaineers will begin their post-season run in Bartlesville, OK on Thursday. They will play Connors State College at 3:30 pm in the Bi-State Conference Tournament. |
