Eastern Sweeps 25th ranked Texarkana

GibsonThe Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball team (5-2) ranked 22nd by the NJCAA and 34th by Perfect Game swept Texarkana College on Tuesday by scores of 2-1 and13-11.  Texarkana came into the double header ranked 25th by Perfect Game.

The first game was a pitcher’s duel.  Wilburton Freshman, Jimmy Johnson, started on the mound for the Mountaineers and tossed four scoreless innings.  He allowed just four hits and struck out two.  Chance Deason (1-1) came on to throw the 5th and 6th innings and pick up his second win of the season.  Deason allowed one run, no hits and struck out one.  Gunner Glad tossed a scoreless 7th inning to pick up his second save of the season. Eastern’s only runs in the game came in the 4th inning.  After a leadoff single by Casey Gibson and a double by Nate Pettus, Brady White connected on a sacrifice fly that scored Gibson.  After Pettus stole third base, Casey McCollum drove in the game winning run with a single.  Pettus was 2-3 in the game.

Game two’s slugfest had a completely different look from the first game.  After getting out to an 11 to three lead through five innings, Texarkana struck back with eight runs in the top of the 6th inning to tie the game.  Eastern knocked in two more runs in the bottom of the 7th for the final tally of 13-11.  Offensively, Casey Gibson led the way.  Gibson went 3-4 with two doubles, three runs scored, four RBI’s, a walk and a stolen base.  Jeff Scardino went 4-5, Blake Mounce 3-5 and Gunner Glad added a 2-4 performance in the game.
