MOUNTAINEER BASEBALL Story by Aric Thomas Deason Near No Hitter / Mountaineers Go 1-2 on the Weekend The Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball team (14-6) ranked 22nd by the NJCAA beat St. Louis Community College – Meramec Saturday, but then dropped two games to Texarkana College on Sunday. The Mountaineers took on Meramec at Northeast Texas Community College. Chance Deason (4-1) carried a no hitter into the 7th inning. With two outs, Deason surrendered his only hit of the game. He picked up his fourth straight win and in seven innings of work he allowed just the one hit while striking out seven. Phillip Parcell and Derek Kiker came on to throw the final two innings. The Mountaineers won the game by a score of 8-2. Offensively, Steve Irvine led the way with three hits, one of which was a double. He added two runs scored and a stolen base. Casey Gibson continued his hot hitting by going 2-3 with a triple, two runs scored, two RBI’s, a walk and a hit by pitch. On Sunday, Eastern’s bats went cold. The Mountaineers traveled to Texarkana College and lost both games of a double header 0-5 and 1-5. In the first game, Ashton Mowdy (2-2) picked up the lost in five innings of work. He allowed five runs on just four hits and he struck out five. Offensively, Eastern could never get anything going. Casey Gibson and Brady White had the two hits for the Mountaineers. In game two, it was more of the same. Josh Miller (2-2) took the loss in five innings of work. Miller allowed three runs on just four hits. The Mountaineers only bright spot offensively was Casey McCollum. McCollum went 2-3 with a stolen base. The Mountaineers will take the field again on Friday, March 14th when they will travel to Tishomingo for the Murray State Tournament. Eastern will play Brown Mackie College at 6:00 pm Friday and on Sunday (March 16th) the Mountaineers will play Longview Community College at noon and Texarkana College at 3:00 pm. Eastern will play at home Monday, March 17th. They will host Southwestern Community College from Iowa in a 1:00 pm double header.
