MOUNTAINEER BASEBALL Story by Aric Thomas Mountaineers Sweep Double Header
Gunner Glad (2-0) picked up the win and came up just shy of a no hitter. In the top of the 5th inning a ground ball just out of the reach of shortstop Dearth Parker was Southwestern’s only hit. Glad tossed a complete game allowing no runs and just the one hit, while striking out seven and walking none. Offensively, the Mountaineers pounded out 16 hits. Eight of the nine starters had hits and seven players had two hits. Glad went 2-3 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBI’s. Dearth Parker was also 2-3 with a double, home run, two runs scored and 3 RBI’s. In game two, Jimmy Johnson improved to 2-0 on the mound. Johnson tossed a complete game and allowed just one run on four hits, while striking out seven. Offensively, Eastern finished with 13 hits. Steve Irvine went 2-3 with a triple, home run, two runs scored and two RBI’s. Glad went 2-3 again with a double, home run, two runs and two RBI’s. Nate Pettus also was 2-3 with a double, home run, run scored and three RBI’s. Casey Gibson finished the day 4-4 with a walk, hit by pitch, double, triple, four runs scored, four RBI’s and a stolen base. The Mountaineers will take on Southwestern Community College at home on Thursday. The double header will begin at 1:00 pm. Eastern will then take on Redlands Community College at 1:00 pm Saturday. The double header will also be in Wilburton.
