MOUNTAINEER BASEBALL Story by Aric Thomas With Two More Wins Winning Streak at 12
On the mound in the first game, Ashton Mowdy turned in a great start for Eastern. Mowdy tossed a complete game allowing two unearned runs on eight hits. He struck out seven in picking up his third win of the year. Mowdy did not walk any batters. Trailing 1-0 heading into the 2nd inning, Eastern tied the game on a double by Dearth Parker, a sacrifice bunt from Blake Mounce, then a sacrifice fly by Brady White. In the 3rd inning, the Mountaineers touched Rose State for three more runs. Jeff Scardino led off the inning with a single, Gunner Glad walked, Casey Gibson tripled and then Nate Pettus followed with a sacrifice fly. Eastern continued its scoring in the 4th and 5th innings. Tommie Johnson hit a solo home run in the 4th and in the 5th Nate Pettus tripled and Parker followed with Eastern’s third sacrifice fly of the game. Scardino, Parker and Johnson finished game one with two hits a piece. Eastern defeated Rose State 9-5 in game two. The Mountaineers pounded out 16 hits in scoring their nine runs. Casey Gibson and Blake Mounce each had three hits. Gibson was 3-5 with a double and a stolen base. Mounce finished 3-4 with a double, two runs scored, three RBI’s and a stolen base. Steve Irvine, Jeff Scardino, Dearth Parker, Casey McCollum and Danny Cartwright each had two hits. Cartwright blasted his second home run of the year. Gunner Glad (4-0) stayed perfect on the mound picking up his fourth win. Glad threw six innings and allowed four runs while striking out five. Seth Terry struck out four in the 7th and 8th innings and Carter Browning finished the game by tossing a scoreless 9th inning. Eastern will take the field again on Tuesday. They will travel to Poteau and take on Carl Albert State College at 2:00 pm. Bi-State Conference play will resume again Thursday when the team travels to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College for a 1:00 pm double header. The two teams will then return to Wilburton Saturday to play a 1:00 pm double header.
