Eastern Beats Carl Albert to Win 13th Straight

A great pitching performance by Jimmy Johnson, Phil Parcell, Carter Browning and Nate Pettus helped pace the Eastern Oklahoma Mountaineer baseball team (28-7 / 4-0) to a 3-1 victory over Carl Albert State College.  Johnson, a freshman pitcher from Wilburton, turned in another excellent start.  He pitched six innings and allowed just three hits and one run while striking out three.  Johnson picked up the win to improve to 4-0 on the season.  Parcell, Browning and Pettus came on to throw a scoreless 7th, 8th and 9th innings.  Pettus picked up his 8th save of the season which ranks 2nd in the country.  Offensively, Steve Irvine put the Mountaineers up quick.  Irvine led off the game with his sixth home run of the season.  With a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning, the Mountaineers plated another run.  Irvine led off with a single.  Jeff Scardino reached first base on a fielder’s choice.  Gunner Glad doubled and then Nate Pettus scored Scardino on a ground out.  The Mountaineers scored their third run in the 4th inning.  Dearth Parker led off the inning by being hit by a pitch.  Casey McCollum’s sacrifice bunt advanced Parker to 2nd base.  Parker advanced to 3rd base on a ground out and then scored on a passed ball.  Steve Irvine and Gunner Glad were the only two Mountaineer players with two hits.

Eastern will resume Bi-State Conference play on Thursday against Northeastern A&M College.  The Mountaineers will travel to Miami, OK to play a 1:00 pm doubleheader.  The four game series will continue on Saturday when Eastern hosts NEO at 1:00 pm in Wilburton.
