MOUNTAINEER BASEBALL Story by Aric Thomas Eastern Rallies in 9th and Defeats Grayson The 12th ranked Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball team (30-10 / 5-3) rallied in the bottom of the 9th inning to defeat Grayson County College by a score of 8-7. After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the 1st inning, Eastern responded by scoring two runs in the bottom of the frame. Steve Irvine walked and stole second base. With one out, Gunner Glad drove in Irvine with a single and then he stole second base. Casey Gibson followed with a RBI single. In the 2nd inning, Dearth Parker hit his fifth home run of the season to put the Mountaineers ahead 3-2. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Jeff Scardino led off with a walk. Glad then blasted his tenth home run of the season and Gibson followed with his fourth home run of the season. Grayson scored one run in the top of the 5th inning to make the score 6-3. In the bottom of the 6th inning, Brady White reached second base on a two out error by the second baseman. Designated hitter, Tommie Johnson then singled White home. Grayson scored one in the 7th inning and then tied the score 7-7 with three runs in the 8th inning. Eastern came to the plate in the 9th inning and Scardino led off by being hit by a pitch. After a walk to Glad, Gibson delivered his fourth hit of the game. His walk off double gave Eastern the win at 8-7. Jimmy Johnson started on the mound and went 5.2 innings. Johnson allowed just three runs and struck out six. Phil Parcell threw 1.1 innings and allowed just a solo home run while striking out the side in the 7th inning. Nate Pettus came on to throw the 8th and 9th innings to pick up his third win of the season. Pettus struck out three in two innings of work. Offensively, Casey Gibson led the way by going 4-5 with a double, home run, run scored and three RBI’s. Gunner Glad was 2-4 with a home run, two runs scored, three RBI’s, a walk and stolen base. Dearth Parker went 2-3 with a home run, run scored, RBI and a stolen base. Eastern will resume Bi-State Conference play on Thursday against Seminole State College. Thursday the two teams will play a 1:00 pm doubleheader in Wilburton. The series will shift to Seminole on Saturday again beginning at 1:00 pm. |
