17th Ranked Eastern Takes 3 of 4 from 13th Ranked Fort Smith

The 17th ranked Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball team improved to 37-15 and 12-8 in Bi-State Conference play by defeating 13th ranked University of Arkansas at Fort Smith three times in the four game series.  The Mountaineers dropped game one 10-6, but came back to win the final three games by scores of 12-5, 5-2 and 10-5.

After game one, Eastern pitchers held the Lion offense to five runs or less.  In game two, Ashton Mowdy turned in another strong performance.  He picked up his fifth win of the season in 5.2 innings of work.  Mowdy struck out nine while allowing just six hits and five unearned runs.  Seth Terry came on to work 2.1 innings.  He didn’t allow a run and surrendered just one hit.  Carter Browning came in to strike out two in route to tossing a scoreless 9th inning.  In game three, Jeff Scardino turned in one of the best pitching performances all year.  In his nine inning complete game, Scardino got the Lions three up three down in seven of the nine innings.  He allowed just two unearned runs in the 6th inning and he struck out six for the game.  Nate Pettus looked sharp in his first start of the year in game four.  Pettus struck out eight and allowed just two runs in 5.1 innings of work.  Pettus improved his record to 4-1 on the year.  Gunner Glad tossed the final 3.2 innings to notch his 3rd save.

Offensively, the Mountaineer bats were hot all week.  The offense had at least nine hits in each game and finished the four game series with 46 hits and 33 runs.
