MOUNTAINEER BASEBALL Story by Aric Thomas 15th Ranked Eastern Completes Regular Season as Bi-State Conference Co-Champions
In Friday’s game against Panola, the Mountaineer offensive posted a season high 17 runs on 18 hits. Gunner Glad led the way by going 4-5 with two doubles, a home run, two runs scored and five RBI’s. In each of his five at bats, Glad drove in a run. Steve Irvine and Casey Gibson both went 3-4 with a walk. Nate Pettus also blasted his 17 home run on the season. Chance Deason picked up his 8th win of the year on the mound. Sunday, Eastern split a double header with Texarkana College. In game one, Nate Pettus and Jeff Scardino combined to hold Texarkana to one run on one hit. Pettus improved to 5-1 on the season. He threw five innings and allowed just one hit and one run, while striking out five. Scardino came in to retire the only six hitters he faced, three of which by strike out. Dearth Parker and Pettus had run scoring singles to plate both of the Mountaineers runs. Logan Schamburg was the story in game two. Despite not being able to play all season due to a back injury, Schamburg made his first start of the season as the designated hitter. In his first at bat, he drove a single to center field. In his third at bat he came up a few feet short of hitting a home run and then in his final at bat, he blasted a grand slam home run over the center field fence. Schamburg finished the day 2-4 with four RBI’s. The Mountaineers will begin their post season run this Thursday in Bartlesville.
