MOUNTAINEER BASEBALLEastern Ready to Open Season The 13th ranked Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball team is ready to open the season. Despite winter weather, the Mountaineers are slated to begin play this Wednesday, February 4th. Eastern will travel to Denison, TX to take on the defending National Champions Grayson County College. The two teams will play a double header. Grayson is ranked 1st in the country in two polls and 3rd in another. Once again, Eastern will play one of the toughest schedules in the country. On this year’s schedule, 27 of the 56 scheduled games will be against teams that are nationally ranked or receiving votes in national polls. Outside of conference play, Eastern will take on ranked opponents Grayson County College (3 games), Texarkana College (4 games), Navarro College (1 game), Cowley County College (3 games) and Redlands Community College (4 games). In the always tough Bi-State Conference, four of the six teams have landed in the national rankings. Making the rankings with Eastern are conference opponents Seminole State College, Connors State College and the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. The Bi-State Conference looks to be one of the strongest conferences in the country again in 2009. After playing at Grayson (Wednesday – February 4th), the Mountaineers will travel to Texarkana College (Sunday – February 8th) and play a double header. Eastern will play their first home game on Monday February 9th in a single nine inning game against one of the best teams in Missouri, Jefferson College. |
