Mountaineers Drop a Double Header to Texarkana
Story by Staff – 2/25/09

Slemp battingThe Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball team (4-9-1) lost two games to Texarkana College on Tuesday.  The Bulldogs won the first game 9-7 and they followed it up with a 9-1 victory.

In the first game, the Mountaineers rallied from a 4-1 deficit to take a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the 5th inning.  With two outs, the Mountaineers got four straight hits from Brady White, Kaleb Brawner, Houston Slemp and Jeff Scardino.  After an intentional walk to Stephen Hagen, Justin Klusak singled in a run and then Casey McCollum doubled in the fifth run of the inning.  Texarkana answered back and tied the game in the top of the 6th inning, but Eastern retook the lead when Houston Slemp hit a two out double to score pinch runner Jared Coon.  In the 7th inning Texarkana led off with a ground ball to first baseman Cameron Green.  Green flipped the ball to Seth Terry, but Terry missed first base.  After a walk and strike out, Bulldog pinch hitter David Allday connected on a three run opposite field home run.  It put Texarkana up 9-7 and that was the final margin.

In the second game, the Mountaineers couldn’t get their offense going off Texarkana pitcher Taylor Nichols.  Tommie Johnson connected on his first home run of the year in the 5th inning, but that was all the Mountaineers could put on the board until Justin Klusak scored on a Jesse Santo double in the bottom of the 9th inning.  The Mountaineers lost game two by a 9-2 margin.

The Mountaineers take the field again on Saturday, February 28th.  They will host Cowley County College in a single game beginning at 2:00 pm.  On Sunday, March 1st, the two teams will play a double header starting at 12:00 pm.
