MOUNTAINEER BASEBALLEastern Split with Maple Woods
and Coffeyville The Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball team split a pair of double headers with Maple Woods and Coffeyville. Against Maple Woods, the Mountaineers dropped the first game 2-1 and then won the second game 9-7. Eastern also lost the first game to Coffeyville 5-1 and then came back to win the second game 24-14. In game one versus Maple Woods, Jimmy Johnson pitched a three hit complete game. He gave up a two run home run in the top of the 2nd inning with one out. After the home run, only two of the remaining 19 batters from Maple Woods reached base. However, Eastern was only able to plate one run. With two outs in the 4th inning, Jesse Santo and Casey McCollum hit back to back singles. Santo moved to 3rd base on McCollum’s hit. As McCollum stole 2nd base, the catcher’s throw allowed Santo to score simultaneously. The Mountaineers were able to get their bats going and won the second game 9-7. Stephen Hagen (2-4, 2B, HR, 2 runs, 2 RBI, BB), Jesse Santo (2-4, 2B, 2 runs, RBI, BB) and Justin Klusak (2-5, run, 2 RBI’s, SB) had two hits a piece. Casey McCollum also scored twice, had two BB’s, two stolen bases and a single. Jeff Scardino started and picked up the win. Scardino went 5 innings, allowed three runs, struck out four and didn’t walk anyone. For the second straight time, Eastern couldn’t get its offense going in the first game of a double header. Coffeyville took advantage and knocked off the Mountaineers 5-1. Eastern was limited to four hits. Tommie Johnson went 2-2 with a double and a walk. He scored the Mountaineers lone run on a wild pitch in the final inning. Phil Parcell took the loss on the mound. In game two, the Mountaineers scored a season high 24 runs in knocking off Coffeyville 24-14. Tommie Johnson, Ben Kozma, Jeff Scardino, Jesse Santo, Casey McCollum, Bryce Killingsworth, Cameron Green and J.T. Gasso each had two hits for Eastern. Santo blasted two home runs in the top of the 3rd inning. His first came with a runner on base and nobody out and his second was with the bases loaded and one out. In just three at bats, Santo had seven RBI’s. |
