Mountaineers Improve to 7-2 with Sweep of Coffeyville

The Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball team improved to 7-2 and 4-0 at home with a sweep of Coffeyville Community College on Wednesday.  The Mountaineers offense broke out and won by scores of 14-1 and 23-10.

In game one, Jesse Baird (2-0) picked up his second win of the year in five innings of work.  Baird didn’t allow a run and gave up just three hits while striking out eight.  Brandon Marris threw the final two innings for Eastern.  He gave up an unearned run, but struck out two.  Offensively, the Mountaineers broke out for 14 runs on 13 hits.  Chris Munoz was 3-5 with a double, three runs scored and two stolen bases.  Justin Klusak, Joe Spring and Levi Presley had two hits a piece and Houston Slemp hit his second home run of the year.

Eastern kept the offense going in the game two.  The Mountaineers scored 23 runs on 17 hits.  Justin Klusak, Sam King and Nathan Goodall each had three hits.  Jordan Mings and Chris Munoz each hit their second home runs of the season.  Tyler Sparks (3-1) earned his third victory of the year.  In five innings of work, Sparks allowed two runs on six hits while striking out five.

The Mountaineers will take the field again Saturday – February 27th.  They will host Grayson County College at 11:00 am.  Grayson will play Cowley County College immediately following.  Sunday, Eastern will host Cowley in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
