Mountaineers Drop Two Games against Navarro
Story by staff (03/07/10)

The Eastern baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Navarro College on Saturday.  Navarro won game one 6-3 and game two 7-1.

In the first game, Navarro scored their first run in the bottom of the first inning.  Trailing 1-0 in the top of the 3rd inning, Eastern scored two runs and took the lead.  Joe Spring led off the inning with a single and then Curtis Coyle walked.  Chris Munoz sacrifice bunt advanced both runners.  With two outs, Houston Slemp singled in both runs.  Navarro came right back with four runs in the bottom of the inning.  They added another run in the bottom of the 6th inning.  Eastern scored a single run in the top of the 7th, but 6-3 was as close as they could get.  Munoz singled in Steve Genao in the inning.

In game two it looked like Eastern would have a better outcome in the 1st inning.  With one out, Houston Slemp singled home Chris Munoz to put the Mountaineers up 1-0.  Justin Klusak and Jordan Mings drew back to back walks to load the bases and chase Navarro’s starting pitcher.  Eastern’s next batter, Ben Kozma bounced into an inning ending double play and Eastern was unable to score another run the rest of the game.  Navarro tied the score in the 2nd inning and then scored two more runs in the 5th, three more in the 6th and an insurance run in the 8th.

The Mountaineers will play Northeast Texas Community College in 1:00 pm doubleheader Sunday.
