Eastern Splits with Rose State – Moves to7-1 in Conference
Story by staff (4/21/10)

The Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball team (24-14 / 7-1) split with Rose State College on Monday.  The Mountaineers lost the first game 6-5 and then won the second game 6-3.  The loss snapped the Mountaineers 12 game winning streak, but they have won 14 of their last 16 contests.  With the split, the Mountaineers maintain their 1st place lead in Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

In the first game the Rose State took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning.  They scored two runs, off Eastern starting pitcher Trent Scrivner, with two singles and three walks.  The Mountaineers answered right back in the top of the 3rd inning.  Chris Munoz and Cameron Green hit back to back home runs to tie the game.  However in the bottom of the 3rd inning Rose State scored three runs on a home run by catcher Ty Flewallen.  Eastern rallied to tie the game with a run in the 5th and two runs in the 6th inning.  Houston Slemp singled home Munoz in the 5th and Joe Spring and Green drove in runs in the 6th.  Rose State took the lead for good in the bottom of the 6th inning.  With one out, Sam Dellinger reached base by an error and then stole second base.  Romus Cezar singled him home with two outs.  Andrew Watson was the tough luck loser on the mound.  Watson allowed just one hit and one unearned run in 1 2/3 innings of work.  He also struck out one batter.

In game two, starting pitcher Nate Coronado turned in a strong performance to pick up the win and improve to 4-1 on the year and 2-0 in conference play.  Coronado pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed just one run on six hits while striking out seven batters.  Joe Spring pitched 1 2/3 of scoreless relief and Chris Munoz pitched the 9th inning.  Offensively, Ben Kozma and Houston Slemp had two hits apiece.  Justin Klusak scored twice and Keith Price drove in two runs.

The Mountaineers will continue Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference action this week against Connors State College.  The two teams will play in Wilburton on Wednesday and Saturday at 1:00 pm and they will play in Warner on Thursday at 7:00 pm and Sunday at 1:00 pm.
