5-4 in Region 2 Tournament Play The Eastern baseball team (35-19) defeated Connors State College by a score of 5-4 on Friday. With the win, Eastern moves to 2-0 in the Region 2 Tournament. There next opponent will be determined by the outcome of the Seminole vs. NEO game that was suspended due to rain. NEO was leading 3-2 in the 8th inning when play was halted. If NEO wins, Eastern will play NEO at noon on Saturday. If Seminole rallies to win, Eastern will play at 7:00 pm Saturday against the winner of the 3:30 pm game between Connors and NEO. Eastern got another strong pitching performance from Tyler Sparks. The freshman right hander pitched eight innings and allowed four runs on 10 hits, all singles. He struck out six while improving to 9-3 on the year. Sparks also improved to 5-0 in six starts versus Region 2 opponents. Joe Spring pitched a scoreless 9th inning to pick up his 4th save of the year. Spring lowered his team leading earned run average to 0.88 on the season. Eastern trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the 3rd inning. Chris Munoz singled to lead off the inning and later stole second base. With two outs, Sam King doubled Munoz home and then Jordan Mings singled home King. Connors added a run in the top of the 4th inning to lead 4-2. In the bottom of the 5th inning, King singled with one out. With two outs, King stole second base and then Keith Price singled him home. The Mountaineers took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the 6th inning and then held on the rest of the way. Ben Kozma walked with one out and later stole second base. With two outs, Cameron Green hit an infield single. With Houston Slemp at the plate, Green stole second base. Slemp then singled up the middle to drive in both Kozma and Green.
