Comes to an End for the 9th Ranked Eastern Baseball Team The 9th ranked Eastern baseball team (37-22) lost its first two games in South Central District Tournament play to finish the season. In the first game, the Mountaineers lost to Crowder College 11-2 and in the second game, Delgado Community College knocked off Eastern 13-6. Eastern finished the year ranked 9th by the NJCAA and 14th by Perfect Game. Against Crowder, Eastern took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning. Joe Spring singled to begin the inning and Ben Kozma’s sacrifice bunt advanced Spring to 2nd base. Chris Munoz followed with a RBI single. Crowder answered right back with two runs. They scored three runs in the 4th and four more runs in the 5th inning to take a 9-1 lead. Eastern added a run in the top of the 6th inning when Sam King doubled home Houston Slemp. The Mountaineer offense wasn’t able to score any more runs and Crowder scored two more runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to take an 11-2 lead. Tyler Sparks (9-4) took the loss on the mound. It was Sparks first loss since the middle of March. He had gone 9 straight starts without a loss. Munoz led the Mountaineer offense. He was 2-4 with a RBI and stolen base. In the second game Friday, Delgado Community College beat Eastern 13-6. Delgado jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning. Eastern cut the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the 3rd inning and then tied it 4-4 in the 4th inning. In the 3rd, Sam King’s RBI single scored Chris Munoz. In the 4th inning, Munoz connected on a three run home run, his 15th of the year. Delgado answered with three more runs in the top of the 5th inning to lead 6-4. The Mountaineers tied it again with two runs in the bottom of the 5th. King lead off the inning with his 8th home run of the year. Keith Price singled and later scored on a bases loaded walk. Unfortunately for Eastern, they couldn’t push another run across home plate. Delgado scored a single run in the 7th, two runs in the 8th and three runs in the 9th inning. Eastern threatened in the final four innings, but left seven runners on base in those innings. Nate Coronado (5-3) took the loss on the mound for Eastern. Nathan Goodall, Houston Slemp, Price, King and Munoz each had two hits for the Mountaineers. GAME #1 GAME #2
