WILBURTON – Leading the nation in strikeouts is a magnificent
accomplishment. Having two players from the same school in softball
and baseball as the national leaders is rare. When both players
are from the same high school, it is almost unheard of.

Chasing History
Marjorie Johnson has taken Junior College
softball by storm. Johnson has her sights set on the National Junior
College Athletic Association All-Time Strikeout record of 454 held
by Kristen Keyes of Central Florida in 2001.
Johnson is setting on 447. Keyes recorded
her total in 264 innings while Johnson has notched her in 230 innings.

This morning’s other big story
was Eastern Oklahoma State College (Wilburton, OK) pitcher Marjorie
Johnson setting a new NJCAA record for strikeouts in a season as
her #7 Lady Mountaineers team defeated #10 Blinn College (Brenham,
TX), 4-1.
Johnson struck out 13 batters to raise her season total to 460,
breaking the previous mark of 454 set by Central Florida Community
College’s Kristen Keyes in 2001. Play

To NJCAA National Tournament

Eastern Oklahoma State College softball team amassed a record this

Sophomores Lesley Boyd, Ashley Graham,
Karla Pittman, Brittney Day and Alysha Denomy have done something
no other athletes in Eastern history have done. They have been
part of 110 softball victories over the last two years with still
more to come at the National Tournament May 18-20, 2006 in Plant
City, FL.

2006 Region II Softball Champions
“We Are The Champions”
Second Verse
The Eastern Oklahoma State College Lady
Mountaineers earned their second consecutive berth in the National
Junior College World Series by winning the Region II Championship
again this year.
Eastern will return to Florida to make
a run at the national title sporting a 62-8 record. Eastern finished
#7 last season in the National Tournament after defeating Northern
in the Regional finals 7-6. (5-09-06) FULL

Former Lady Mountaineers Earn Honors
The Lone Star Conference, NCAA Div. II,
has announced their All-Conference selections for the 2006 season.
Rachael Christian was Named Most Valuable Player, as well as Newcomer
of the Year and to the First Team at second base. Rebecca Buirrea
was named First Team All-Conference at first base and India Williamson
earned honors on the second team at pitcher.

Region
II Regular Season Championship
The
Lady Mountaineers Fastpitch Softball Team won the Region II regular
season championship Thursday.
Eastern split their doubleheader
with Northern at Tonkawa, losing the first game 2-1 in 9 innings
and winning the second game 5-4. Eastern finishes Region play with
a 22-6 record.
Eastern Wins Seminole's Invitational Tournament
Eastern should rise even higher in the
polls after winning Seminole's Invitational Tournament held at
the Hall of Fame stadium in OKC this past weekend, April 7th & 8th.
Nine Region II teams and 16 total Juco teams from several states
competed.
The Lady Mountaineers are currently ranked
14th in the national JUCO polls with new rankings coming out
on Wed, April 12th.
Lady Mountaineer Softball Team Ranked 16th in the National
Poll
Below is the first national poll for
this season in softball. The Lady Mountaineers are ranked 16th
at this time. NEO is ranked 10th, having beaten Eastern twice
at home before losing the last time they played as Eastern defeated
NEO 4-0 to win the Midwest JUCO Classic the weekend before spring
break. The Lady Mountaineers won the Eastern Spring Classic at
McAlester and were undefeated in the Cowtown Classic in Fort
Worth before it was cancelled due to weather. Eastern has also
beaten Colby, KS 8-0, ranked 17th, and Bossier Parrish 2-1, ranked
20th.

Lady Mountaineer Softball Team Back on Winning Streak
The Lady Mountaineers Softball
team have gotten back on the winning track. After starting
the season with 18 consecutive wins they dropped three straight
before winning the MidWest JUCO Softball Classic this past
weekend in Broken Arrow, OK. Their record now stands at 22-3
with an impressive 15 shoutouts, six no hitters and two perfect
