Eastern Meats team wins High Plains

The Eastern Oklahoma State College Meats Judging Team took First Place Overall in the 2001 EXCEL High Plains Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest October 21 in Plainview, TX. Eastern competed against 13 teams from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Illinois and recieved a $4,000 scholarship donation for winning the contest, the fourth consecutive year for Eastern.

As a team Eastern placed: 1st in Beef Grading, Pork Judging, Lamb Judging and Total Questions. 2nd in Beef Judging and 4th in Placings. Team members included, from left to right: Lindsey Rinard, Clovis, CA; Nathan Dickson, Wann, OK; Travis McGoffin, Central Point, OR; Clint Johnson, Chickasha and Roger Stites, Coach. Johnson placed 1st Overall, 1st in Total Questions, 2nd in Lamb Judging, 3rd in Beef Judging and 4th in Pork Judging. Rinard placed 4th Overall, 4th in Lamb Judging and 5th in Total Questions. McGoffin placed 1st in Pork Judging, 3rd in Beef Grading, 3rd in Total Questions and 6th Overall. Nathan Dickson placed 5th in Beef Grading and 8th Overall. Besides winning the $4,000 scholarship as a team Johnson won $1,000, Rinard $500, Dickson $250 and McGoffin $250.
