Six Eastern Oklahoma State College instructors have been selected for recognition in the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers 2002 edition from the Wilburton college.

Marsha Green, who chairs the Division of Applied Arts in Nursing; Leo Hall, a chemistry instructor in the Science Division; Maurice Hawthorne, the Department Chair for the Physical Science Department; Brenda Kennedy, an instructor in the Computer Information Services Department; Blaine Villines, instructor in the Criminal Justice Department and Leland Walker, Division Chair for Agriculture, were selected by former students to receive the bi-annual honor.

Only students who have been listed in a prior edition of Who’s Who Among American High School Students or The National Dean’s List may nominate candidates for inclusion into the teachers’ edition.

Green has been a member of the Eastern Nursing Faculty for 20 years and has held the position of Nursing Division Chairperson for the past 18 years. Before coming to Eastern, Green worked for the Indian Health Service Center in Eufaula and was a nursing instructor for Bacone College and held both a B.S. in nursing degree as well as a M.S. in nursing from the University of Oklahoma. While at Eastern, Green has garnered many honors including being elected as president of Oklahoma’s State Board of Nursing.

Hall came to Eastern in 1998 from Phillips University in Enid where he was Chairman of the Division of Science/Mathematics, Exercise and Sports Science. His academic credentials include a PhD in Microbiology from Oklahoma State University and a B.S. in Secondary Education with Chemistry-Mathematics Emphasis from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Hawthorne began his tenure at Eastern in the fall of 1978 as a physics instructor. Before coming to Eastern, Hawthorne taught at three Nebraska high schools and had earned a B.S. degree in Physics and Mathematics at the University of Nebraska and a M.S. teaching degree at Illinois Wesleyan University.

Kennedy arrived at Eastern 16 years ago after teaching math and computer science at Clayton and Valliant High Schools. She has a degree from Eastern as well as B.S. and M.S. degrees in Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Villines has been at Eastern since the beginning of the fall of 1999 and brought a wealth of experience in law enforcement as well as a B.S. in Criminal Justice and a M.S. in Education from Northeastern State University. He also holds several certifications in Law Enforcement Education and Training.

Walker began teaching Agriculture at Eastern in the fall of 1984 after teaching at Moss High School. An Eastern graduate, he also earned a B.S. degree from Oklahoma State University and a M.S. from East Texas State University. His many accomplishments while at Eastern include several selections to Faculty Person of the Year as selected by students.
