PBL 2003 State
Conference EASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE COLLEGE ATTENDS 2003 OKLAHOMA FBLA–PBL STATE FALL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE IN TULSA Eighteen members and advisors from the Eastern Oklahoma State College chapter of Phi Beta Lambda attended the 2003 Oklahoma FBLA–PBL Fall Leadership Conference on October 25, at Tulsa Community College, West Campus, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The chapter received the Award for the PBL Chapter with the Most Members Present. Keynote speaker was Oklahoma Senator Kenneth Corn. Representing District 4, he was elected to the Oklahoma State Senate at the age of 26. His election to the State Senate made him the second youngest member in state history and the current youngest Senator. Corn served two terms in the Oklahoma House of Representatives prior to his service in the Senate. He was elected at the age of 22, making him one of the youngest to serve in the Oklahoma Legislature in the history of the State. Prior to his election to the legislature, Corn served as an intern for the powerful House Appropriation Chairman, Jim Hamilton. Corn has a strong commitment to public service. He served two terms as State President of Future Business Leaders of America and one term as National President. Corn is a strong supporter of FBLA–PBL. He currently attends the University of Oklahoma part–time, pursuing a degree in Political Science. He is a Ruth Norman and United States Senate Youth Scholar and was a member of the OU President’s Leadership Class. Members attended various breakout sessions including: Officer/Member Training; Birth Order; FBLA–PBL—Don’t Be in the Dark Anymore; March of Dimes—Community Service; Understanding Your Leadership Style; CMAP—PBL Career and Membership Recognition Program; Introduction to Connex Dance/J–Roll; What Would the Queen of England Do?—Proper Etiquette; Connex Dance/Swing; and BBA—FBLA Business Achievement Awards. Workshop presenters included Brian Ferrell, former PBL National President; Lisa M. Smothers, FBLA–PBL National Membership Director; Darlene Dunn, Director of Oklahoma March of Dimes; Jerry Johnson, a legislative and political organizer; Brad Howard, PBL National Parliamentarian; Jamin Jackson, Connex Dance; Anna Vee Hill, retired educator and hostess extraordinaire; Estella Bennett–Mask, Eastern Oklahoma State College PBL Advisor; Jenny Cooper, Drumright High School FBLA Advisor; Linda Morgan, Oklahoma PBL State Advisor; Connie Bettes, Wilburton High School FBLA Advisor; and Lisa Hudson, Oklahoma FBLA State Advisor. Attending from Eastern Oklahoma State were Carmen Beers, McAlester; Christinna Campbell, McAlester; Dru Campbell, McAlester; Jackie Caughern, Leflore; Dennis Craig, Stigler; Stephanie Edwards, Okemah; Tommy Gonzales, Wilburton; Amber Hubler, Quinton; Casey Jiles, Wilburton; Belinda Keith, Stigler; Lindy Morgan, Wilburton; Brigitte Noah, Red Oak; Jeremy Pebley, Wilburton; Kyle Rust, Haileyville; Jared Sharp, Wilburton; Ashley Smallwood, Haileyville; Dawn Wallis, Wilburton; and Co–Advisors Linda Morgan, Estella Bennett–Mask, and Harold Bogard. Future Business Leaders of America–Phi Beta Lambda, Inc., is a national student vocational education association that prepares students for careers in business and business education. Membership is over 260,000 in 11,000 chapters across the United States and abroad. Future Business Leaders of America is the high school division; Phi Beta Lambda is the collegiate division.
