EOSC PTK Health Seminar

Nationally recognized physician Dr. Arnold Relman will present a  60-minute interactive seminar entitled "America's Health Care System: How Good Is It and Does It need to Change" 6:30 p.m. Tuesday (September 30). The seminar will be conducted live via satellite broadcast and aired in the Eastern Oklahoma State College Student Union Ballroom.

The program, produced by Phi Theta Kappa honor society and the National Collegiate Honors Council, is sponsored on the Wilburton campus by Eastern's PTK and the Eastern Honors Program. This is the first installment of a five part series entitled Dimensions and Directions of Health: Choices in the Maze.

Relman is Editor emeritus of the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine and Professor emeritus of Medicine and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School. During his 30-year research career, he published numerous original papers, clinical studies and textbook chapters and edited two volumes of Controversy in Internal Medicine. He has also written widely on the economic, ethical, legal and social aspects of health care.

His discussion of the U.S. health care system will provide a thorough overview of how the system works, who pays for it, what its major problems are and what can be done to repair it. Relman will also explore the pros and cons of a universal health care system with single-payer insurance.
