Coats Signs With Eastern Basketball
(Press Release 4-16-04) Bobb Johnston, Athletics Dept. Oklahoma City Southeast High School product James Coats signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton Eastern finished with a 22-9 record this past season before bowing out in the Regional semi-finals. Coats led Southeast to a 26-1 record and the 5-A state championship this past year while averaging 19.2 pts. per game. Coats also averaged 5.9 assists. “James is a hard worker and has the ability to lead. He led by example, not just a talker, on the floor,” said Southeast Coach Walt Brewer. “He follows directions, goes by the book and comes from a hard working family.” “We are anxious for James to join the Eastern family and our program,” stated Jimmy Voight, Eastern Men’s coach.
