OK Writers Hall Of Fame Member Rilla Askew To Speak At EOSC

The Library Media Center staff at Eastern Oklahoma State College, with support from members of the Latimer County Arts Council, welcome Rilla Askew, Oklahoma Writers Hall of Fame member at 10 a.m. on April 16th in Mitchell Auditorium on the Wilburton campus. She will be reading from her award winning books. There will be an opportunity after the readings to purchase her books and have them signed.

Askew is a native of Red Oak and now resides during the summers in the Hartshorne area. She is currently in residency at the University of Oklahoma. She is the author of several books that explore the experience of living in Oklahoma. She was inducted into the Oklahoma Writer's Hall of Fame in October, 2003. She has been honored for her works, Strange Business and The Mercy Seat, with several other awards, including the Western Heritage Award, the American Book Award and the Oklahoma Book Award. Her latest book, Fire in Beulah, looked at black/white relations in Tulsa in the 1920's.
