(Press Release 3-05-04)

PBL “PIE IN THE FACE” RAISES OVER $400 FOR RELAY FOR LIFE

A pie in the face for the American Cancer Society—that’s what over 20 Eastern faculty, staff, and Student Senate officers took last week as they braved a brisk February afternoon to allow pie tins filled with whipped cream to be thrown at them to raise money for the upcoming Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society.

Eastern Oklahoma State PBL sponsored the Pie in the Face event. The event was planned by the club’s community service project committee.

“It was great!” said PBL co–advisor Linda Morgan. “Everyone had fun—the people who threw the pies and those who got them. It was all in good fun! A lot of people have already asked when we’re going to do it again!”

From baseball players to staff to children—all stood in line to smash a pie in the face of their “favorite” victims.

“This really was a community project,” said project chair Jackie Caughern. “We have completed several projects for the American Cancer Society this year. In October, we set up booths for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in December, we delivered roses to area cancer survivors. In addition to the Pie in the Face contest, we sponsored a dance to raise money for the Relay.”

“It was a lot of fun,” said Leah Miller, EOSC Financial Aide officer and Recruiter. “I had lots of pies thrown at me. I’d do it again!”

The club would like to thank the following for “standing in the line of fire”: Bill Albright, Judy Betts, Harold Bogard, Butch Booth, Preston Boyles, Les Brelsford, Mary Edith Butler, Cathy Cogburn, Brenton Duncan, Patrick Herring, Deborah Layton, Sue Lovett, Judy McCullough, Leah Miller, Linda Morgan, Lindy Morgan, Kyle Rust, Todd Shelton, Blaine Villines, Viki Vogt, and Joshua Westmoreland. Thanks to Howard Morgan and Cody Henry for making and painting the board. Special thanks to Jack Inman of McAlester’s Wal–Mart and Joe Coy, Roy’s Cardinal Foods, for donating the supplies for the event.
