New Regent Officers
(Press Release 6-18-04) Hank Mooney, Office of Public Information Eastern Oklahoma State Regents elected officers Friday for next year in keeping with a policy they passed during their last regularly scheduled meeting in May at the Wilburton college. Their new policy requires an annual election of officers to include a chairperson, vice-chair and secretary. Additional provisions state that no one individual may hold a position more than two years during a regent’s seven-year term. An Eastern regent is appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the State Senate for a seven-year term. McAlester Mayor Dale Covington was elected as chairman. Burl Williams from Stigler was elected as vice-chairman and Ken Bass, Wilburton, as secretary. The new policy requires officers to be elected during the June meeting each year. Other Eastern regents include Randell Ward from McAlester; Mike Bailey, Durant, and Mark Jordan from McAlester. One position on the Wilburton college board remains open following the resignation of Georgia Tate from Heavener last month who had served as chairperson of the board since 1987.
