Oklahoma State College Co-sponsors Oral History Workshop
(Press Release 3-26-04) Hank Mooney, Office of Public Information Have you ever wanted to record the stories of your aging grandparents? Do you plan to get some of the old stories down before your folks pass away? There's no time like the present to preserve our local history! Learn how to ask the right questions at the Oral History Workshop scheduled for Saturday, April 3, 1-3 p.m. in Mitchell Auditorium on the Eastern campus in Wilburton. The workshop, which is free to all, is co-sponsored by Eastern, the Twin Cities Heritage Museum, Hartshorne Hard Times Day committee, and the Oklahoma Historical Society. The workshop is a first step in the process of recording the stories of the coal miners and their families in the area and developing a folk life drama on their important contribution to our culture. Though the focus of many participants will be on the story of coal in the early days, any one interested in collecting oral histories from our elders is cordially invited to attend. Contact Ruth Askew Brelsford, 918-465-2361 x 216, for more information. |
