Fall Graduation
Slated For December 5
(Press Release 11-29-04) Hank Mooney, Office of Public Information Eastern Oklahoma State College will grant degrees to more than 90 students during Commencement exercises slated for 2 p.m. Sunday, December 5, in Mitchell Auditorium on the Wilburton campus. Chairman of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, Jimmy D. Harrel, will present the Commencement address. Harrel was appointed to serve a nine-year term as a State Regent in May of 1999 by Gov. Frank Keating. He is a rancher, farmer and banker. He serves as CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Western Oklahoma in Elk City and Vici. He previously served as high school principal, vocational agriculture instructor and basketball coach at Taloga Public Schools. He has served as a member of the Lieutenant Governor’s Business Advisory Council as well as on boards and committees including the Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Oklahoma Board of Agriculture and the Board of Regents for the Oklahoma A & M Colleges. Harrel participates in a number of community activities such as the Masonic Lodges of Leedey and Elk City, the Chambers of Commerce of Leedey and Elk City, the American Quarter Horse Association and the OSU Alumni Association. The ceremony will begin with a processional to Pomp and Circumstance followed by a welcome by Eastern President Dr. Richard Bernard, posting of colors by the Choctaw Nation Color Guard, Daniel Vogt from Checotah singing the Star Spangled Banner and presentation of awards by division chairpersons. The program will continue with Hara Seo from Gwang-ju, South Korea, singing You Will Never Walk Alone. Dr. Bernard will introduce the commencement speaker. Following the speaker, Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Bradley Rice will present the graduating class followed by the conferring of degrees, a special presentation of a two-year free Eastern Alumni Association membership by Eastern Alumni Association President, Col. Bill Lewark, USAF, retired. Commencement exercises will close with the singing of the Alma Mater and recessional.
