Case Named As
New Eastern Athletic Director
(Press Release 4-14-05) Hank Mooney, Office of Public Information A former Eastern assistant coach returns to the Wilburton college to become Athletic Director and men’s head basketball coach from Oklahoma City University where he served as the Stars head coach for 13 seasons, recording a 315-96 coaching record.
“I’ve spent 15 terrific years at OCU and have some wonderful memories. Now it’s time for me to take the next step in my career,” Case said. “Dr. Bernard (Eastern President) got me excited about all the great things that are happening at Eastern. And, I just decided it would be nice to become a part of the Eastern family again. “It’s a great area of the state and the people of the town and area are some of the finest people in the world. “I feel like I am coming home again and I am looking forward to working with the outstanding faculty and athletic staff at Eastern,” he said. Eastern President Dr. Richard Bernard said Case should prove to be an asset to Eastern. “We are excited to have Win Case at Eastern again,” the president said. “He is a professional who has been involved in athletics from his high school days through national collegiate honors. “Win is a gentleman who knows what he is doing and we are glad to have him on board.” The native Tulsan was a standout player at Nathan Hale High School. Following graduation in 1981, Case began his college playing career at Seminole Junior College and led the team to a runner-up finish in the NJCAA national championship game. Following junior college action Case played for former OCU coach Paul Hansen during the 1983-84 and 1984-85 seasons. Case was said to have been a valuable contributor to the Cowboys for two years especially during his senior season when he averaged 10.7 points. Case began his coaching career as an assistant to Paul Hansen at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and completed his bachelor’s degree in 1986. Case then joined former OSU assistant coach Darrell Johnson in 1987 at Oklahoma Baptist University for a season. He came to Eastern in 1988 where he worked two years as an assistant basketball coach and assistant dean of students. Case left Eastern in 1990 to become an assistant basketball coach and assistant dean of students at OCU. Bernard said Aric Thomas has agreed to take the position of Assistant Athletic Director. He will add this responsibility to his head baseball coaching assignment. Thomas came to Eastern in August 2004 from the University of Oklahoma where he was coordinator of baseball operations and assistant baseball coach.
